Precious Young Parker, 81,widow of Jimmy E. Parker, died Monday, December 7, 2009 at Tuomey Health Care System, Sumter.
Born April 23, 1928, in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Young, Sr. and Sammie Wright Young.
She attended the public schools of Sumter County. During her early years, she moved to New York , where she worked as a nurse. Prior to obtaining a permanent position, she worked at several hospitals. She met and married her husband, the late James E. Parker. While living in Hollis, New York, she joined Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, where she was a member for more than 25 years. She served faithfully on the usher board and other functions of the church. She worked hard to take care of her husband, her child and grandchildren.
She relocated back to Sumter in the early 1990’s to assist in caring for her mother. Mrs. Parker rejoined Rafting Creek Baptist Church and continued her membership until the death of her mother. She than joined Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, where she became well known. Shortly before her death, she rejoined her home church, Rafting Creek Baptist Church.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: a daughter, Tracey Parker of Queens, NY; one brother, Robert (Elizabeth) Young of New York; five sisters, Janie Y. Barlow and Agnes Y. Ford, both of Sumter, Bernice Y. Chadwick and Millie Y. Pratt, both of Brooklyn, NY, Christina Y. (Charles) Weedon of Texas; her grandchildren, Kisha Brown of Sumter, Shawn King, Kristina King, and Christopher Young, all of Queens, NY; three special great grandchildren, Dominique, Olivia and Alexis, all of Sumter; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Young, Jr., and four sisters, Eva Nora Y. Hunt, Josephine Y. Butler, Earline Y. Erving, and Wilhelmena Y. Sharpe.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Friday, December 11, 2009 from the Rafting Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Melvin Mack, pastor, presiding, Rev. Larry C. Weston, pastor of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, eulogist, assisted by Rev. Lillian Reynolds, Rev. Willie Dennis, and Rev. Burdell Hill, pastor of Williams Chapel Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at her home 124 Milton Road, Sumter.
The Remains will be placed in the church at Noon.
The funeral procession will leave from the home at 12:30 p. m.
Floral Bearers and Pall Bearers will be friends of the family.
Burial will be in the Rafting Creek Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, Highway 261, Rembert.
