Welcome to Williams Funeral Home

Mary Capers Spann, 65, was born on September 15, 1955 to the late Allen and Epsie Stukes Capers in Pinewood. She passed peacefully from this life the afternoon of December 9, 2020 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence. Mary was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a 1975 graduate of Furman High School, Sumter. She worked in the textile industry for several years before her employment at Vaughn Bassett Williams Furniture in Sumter, where she would retire after working for over 20 plus years. Early in her youth, she joined Calvary Baptist Church. Mary was a loving soul that enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed the visits with her grandchildren, watching soap operas with her sister and playing a friendly game of cards. There is aninvaluable concept that she carried through from her card games into real life – “Life consists not in holding good cards, but in playing those that you hold well”. She used all the gifts that God blessed her with to the fullest. She was a hard working person of faith and lived her life always thinking of others, opening her heart and home to family, friends and anyone that was in need. She would want the legacy of her kind and selfless spirit to live on through all the family and friends that she loved so dearly. Mary leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Harry Lee Spann; mother-in-law, Luphyllis (Samuel) Spann of Sumter; two sisters, Anna Dudley of Decatur, GA and Betty Capers of Sumter; three brothers, Willie (Rosa) Capers of Pinewood, James Caper and John Capers of Sumter; one uncle, Esau McCleod of White Plains, N. Y.; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Stacey Spann; son, Eric Spann; one sister, Rosetta Rowe and one brother, Robert Capers. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 565 South Sumter Street, Sumter. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p. m., Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Calvary Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, 10075 Sammy Swamp Road, Pinewood, with the Rev. E. L. Sanders, officiating. The procession will leave the home at 1:20 p. m.
