Edna Robinson Goldston, 89, was born on July 14, 1931 in Rembert. She was the youngest daughter of the late Deacon David Robinson and Sarah Dow Robinson. God called her home to join her family on August 14, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Deacon David Robinson and Sarah Dow Robinson; her siblings, Elise Robinson Dinkins, Russell Robinson, Willie Robinson Brevard, Johnnie Robinson, Sarah Robinson Mayrant, Martha Robinson Dinkins, Joe Robinson, Mamie Robinson Hyman, Magnolia Robinson Williams and James (Dee) Robinson; her husband, Elbert Goldston and her youngest daughter, Terry Bernadette Goldson Agnew. Edna accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior as a member of Rafting Creek Baptist Church, Rembert. She received her early academic education at Rafting Creek Elementary School, High Hill Middle School, Rembert and Lincoln High School, Sumter. After graduation she attended The Garner School of Cosmetology in Sumter. Edna moved to New York City in 1953, where she joined her sister, Sarah Robinson Mayrant and found employment at a nursing home and attended night school. She became a member of Walker Memorial Baptist Church in Harlem where her sisters, Sarah, Willie and Mamie were members. She met and married her husband, Elbert Goldston on June 5, 1954. They had two children, Connie R. Goldston and Bernadette Goldston. She was employed at Harlem Hospital, Harlem, New York as a Nurse’s Assistant on the Male Surgical Unit and was later approached with the opportunity to become a Certified Surgical Technologist. She was trained at Cornell University in 1965. Edna retired from Harlem Hospital as a Surgical Technologist after 40 years of services. She also worked in the Bacteriology Lab at Harlem Hospital and in Home Health for Cancer and Heart patients after retirement. Edna continued to worship the Lord throughout her life. After leaving Walker Memorial Baptist Church where she served for many years, she became a member of Bethany Baptist Church in The Bronx where she served on the Nurse’s Unit, Missionary’s Ministry and Senior Citizen’s Center. In 1999, she moved back to South Carolina where she rejoined her family church, Rafting Creek Baptist Church. There she served on several choirs and the Outreach Ministry where she remained a dedicated servant. She leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Connie R. Goldston; one grandson, Payton (Erica) Goldston of Tucson, AZ; special nieces, Carrie Robinson Mitchell of Rembert, Elizabeth Mayrant McCray of Los Angeles, CA; special nephew, Louis (Jean) Mayrant; adopted daughter, Ann Dawson August, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family is requesting no visitation at the home. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 20, 2020 – 11:00 a. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter with the Rev. Melvin Mack, officiating. The procession will leave from the home at 10:20 a. m. Burial will be in the Rafting Creek Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, 3860 Highway 261 North, Rembert.
