Alex Jefferson, Jr., 81, “affectionately known as Peter”, was born September 13, 1938 in Lee County to the late Alex Jefferson, Sr. and Evelyn Marolia Jefferson. On May 15, 2020, he departed this life at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, Hartsville. He was educated in the Lee County public schools and employed by Triple C Farm throughout his early years until his illness. Peter was a faithful member of Mt. Olive . A. M. E. Church, where he enjoyed singing with the T J Slater Singers. He was also a member of the 12 Tribes of Israel. He enjoyed hunting and fishing early in life and loved playing bingo with fellow residents at the McCoy Memorial Nursing Center. Surviving to cherish fond memories are: his wife, Gertrude Jefferson of Sumter; two daughters, Patricia “Irene” Jefferson of Killeen, TX, Sharon Jefferson (Dwaine) of Sumter; three sons, Bruce Alex (Chandra Jefferson of Rembert, Al-ziz Rashid “Bobby” Jefferson (Latonya) of Sumter and Leroy Chambers of Hillside, NJ; two brothers-in-law, Samuel Mahoney and Ernest Jenkins, both of Sumter; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Jenkins and Emma Dinkins, both of Sumter; three uncles, William (Lou) Jenkins, James (Pastor Jennette) Jenkins and Otha Johnson; two aunts, Bertha McCoy and Rosa Lee Wactor, all of Sumter; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; special friends, Susie Mae Brisbone and Gladys McMillian; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 7785 Dubose Siding Road, Dalzell. Graveside services will be held 11 a. m., Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the Cooksfield Cemetery, J D Herriott Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Dr. Ralph L. Brown, pastor of Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, officiating, eulogist. The procession will leave at 10:20 a. m. from the home.
