Evangelist Minnie James was born on October 29, 1938 in Rembert. She was one of 11 siblings born to the late Deacon William and Maggie Kirkland Davis. Evangelist Minnie James peacefully transitioned from labor to reward surrounded by her children on May 8, 2020, at the age of 81. Evangelist James received her early religious education and spiritual nurturing at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Rembert, where she was born again and filled with the Holy Ghost. Evangelist James later relocated to Philadelphia, PA, where she met and married Samuel A. James, Sr., who preceded her in death. The two were united in holy matrimony on August 22, 1964. They moved to Long Island New York, where they worked and raised their family. Evangelist James worked at New York Telephone Company, where she retired after more than 20 years of services. While in New York Evangelist James served as a faithful member of the Grace Temple Church of God in Christ. She received her Certificate in Evangelist from the Mason Kelly Washington Religion Training Institute – Church of God in Christ at the State of New York Eastern Diocese. In 1994, Evangelist James and her husband retired and moved back home to South Carolina. On her returned to South Carolina, she served at Canty Memorial Church of God in Christ, Sumter, as Mother of the Church and the chairperson fo the Women’s Department under Supt. Eugene Canty, Sr. She later became an active member of St. Mark Church of God in Christ. Those left to cherish her memories are: a daughter, Sharon L. James of Winnsboro; a son, Samuel A. James of Atlanta, GA; a daughter-in-law, Leslie A. James of Atlanta, GA; four granddaughter; one brother, Pastor Freddie M. Davis of Mitchellville, MD; one sister, Maggie Lane of Sumter; one aunt, Bernice Dinkins of Rembert; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 10 Ole Still Lane, Elgin. Graveside services will be held 2 p. m., Saturday, May 16, 2020 at the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, 7355 Camden Highway, Rembert, with the Rev. Anthony L. Taylor, Sr., pastor, Elder Shelly Hardy, Jr., officiating, eulogist. The procession will leave at 1:20 p. m. from the home.
