Ruby Carter Ponton, 61, wife of Arthur Ponton, entered eternal rest on Sunday, March 29, 2020 in New York, New York. Born in Sumter County, August 9, 1958, she was the daughter of the late William Keith, Sr. and Daisy Carter Keith. Ruby received her formal education through the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Hillcrest High School, Class of 1977. She later moved to New York where she was employed by New York Department of Corrections for 20 years, retiring in 2000. She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband Arthur Ponton; her children, Desmond Carter, Jannae (Danny) Pagan; one grandchild, Sydney Carter; stepchildren, Sanetta Ponton and Lamont Ponton; siblings, Willie Gibson, William Keith, Jr., Phillip (Tina) Keith, Daisy Brown, Darryl (Cherlyn Keith, Marie Carter, John Grant, Robert Le Grant, Caroline Grant, Luella Grant; one aunt, Marie Jefferson; two uncles, James (Shorty) Carter, Leroy Grant; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held 2 p. m., Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Road, Highway 441, Dalzell. The procession will leave from 2895 Lancaster Drive, Dalzell, at 1:30 p. m.
