Sadie Yates Muldrow, 92, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 29, 2019. Born August 14, 1926, in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Tallis Yates, Sr. and Amy DuBose Yates. She attended Lincoln High School and was a graduate of Morris College with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Education from South Carolina State University. She also completed extensive continuing education at Francis Marion College and the University of South Carolina. She was employed by the Lee County School District, where she taught at West Lee Elementary School and Ashwood Central High School for more than 25 years. Sadie was then promoted to Lee County Schools Mathematics Coordinator for 15 years before retiring in 1988. Sadie dedicated her life at an early age at Bethlehem Second Presbyterian Church, which later transitioned to New Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was a devoted member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church, USA, Sumter, where she served as an Ordain Elder, Sunday School teacher and Clerk of Session. Sadie served on the Executive Board of the Presbyterian of Atlantic and other official Presbytery Division committees. She was also a faithful member of the Worthy Matron of Martha Chapter #12, Order of the Eastern Star, Free and Accepted Ancient York Rite Masons, Prince Hall Origin National Compact, USA. She served as Worthy Matron for 26 years then as treasurer until her passing. She leaves to mourn her passing: her son, Matthew Steven Muldrow (Julia) of Columbia; a devoted son-in-law, Henry McCray Jr. of Sumter; four grandchildren, Tiffany Harney (Jeffery), Reginald McCray, Melanie Muldrow (US Air Force) and Jacquelyn M. Funderburk (Kenneth); four great grandchildren; sisters, Sadie E. Singleton of Columbia, Maggie Shepard (William), Thelma Colclough of Philadelphia, PA, Julia Pettyjohn and Authuree Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at her home, 30 South Salem Street, Sumter. Homegoing Celebration Services will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2019, 11 a. m., at the New Covenant Presbyterian Church, USA, 907 Legare Street, Sumter, with Pastor Alonso Washington, officiating, Pastor Elijah Washington, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10 a. m. for viewing until time of services. The funeral procession will leave at 10:20 a. m. from her home. Burial will be in the New Covenant Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 771 Martinville Church Road, Sumter. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to New Covenant Presbyterian Church in her honor.
