Mary Alice Cabbagestalk, 80, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 24, 2019. She was born on April 10, 1938 to the late David (Bo) and Estell Cabbagestalk in Lee County. As a youth she was a member of Mt. Olive AME Church in Woodrow. She attended the Public Schools of Lee County. As a young lady, she decided to move to New Jersey and later relocated to Washington, DC to explore her life to the fullest. She was employed at various organizations prior to retiring from Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland. In March 2018, Mary decided that she would return to her birth place and rejoined her childhood church. Those who celebrate her life and cherished her heart felt memories are her nine children, Lannie Cabbagestalk (Vincent), Earl Workman (Sherry), James (Jenny) Cabbagesalk, Denise (Lonnie) Gladden, Robin (Michael) Thomas, Lewis (Isabella) Cabbagestalk, Jackie Cabbagestalk, Diane (Timothy) Linder, Tawana (Adrian) Dean and a grandson, Antonio Cabbage (whom she reared in her home as her own); twenty three grandchildren; thirty one great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mary shared a special bond with her childhood friend, Elease Diggs. The family will receive relatives and friends at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Rev. James and Jenny Cabbagestalk, 5215 Cotton Acres Road, Sumter. Homegoing Celebration Services will be held Saturday, March 2, 2019, 11 a. m., at Mt. Olive AME Church, 2738 Woodrow Road, Woodrow, with the Rev. Dr. Friendly J. Gadson, Pastor, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10 a. m. for viewing until time of services. The funeral procession will leave at 10:20 a. m. from the home. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Memorial Garden, Pear Street, Woodrow.
